The mood was festive and filled with generosity at this year’s IAA Foundation
events held during the Illinois Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, with members helping
raise more than $58,000 for Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.
Live Auction & Ice Cream Social
A great live auction lineup and generous bidders helped set the tone for
great giving to IAITC. Items went well above retail value, proving our
members won’t put a price tag on the importance of ag literacy! Throw in
an additional $2,085 received through Ice Cream Social donations, and the
Foundation raised a total of $17,300 in just two hours-time!
A big thanks to auctioneer Sean Arians as well as Ed Mullins and all of our ice
cream scoopers! We saw some pretty big scoops of that delicious Prairie
Farms ice cream!
Farm Bureau members packed the house at Trivia Night, where 39 teams and a standing-room only crowd celebrated by dressing in character from their favorite tv shows. The “As Seen on TV” theme brought out the Golden Girls, Gilligan’s Island, Family Feud and more! We couldn’t be prouder of our members for getting in the spirit for IAITC! Speaking of spirit, Congratulations to the Lake County Golden Girls, who brought home the Team Spirit award for both their creative costumes and their superb dancing abilities! For the serious side of the competition, Champaign County Farm Bureau and the “Champaign Tools” team showed their “Smarts” and took first prize in the overall trivia competition. The 50/50 brought in just over $1,700 and the winning ticket holder donated part of his winnings right back to the program, and shared even more with a few local IAITC programs—that’s money well spent! Overall the evening raised more than $20,000 for Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom. That’s a new record and DOUBLE what was raised last year.
Silent Auction & Country Store
Always a popular destination, this year’s IAA Foundation Silent Auction showcased 165 unique, handcrafted, and hard-to-get items. We are overjoyed each year by the amazing items our members and supporters donate to the cause! Between donations and this year’s generous bidding, the silent auction brought it $17,800 for IAITC. The Country Store continues to feature items that showcase member pride, like IFB apparel, or great education resources like “IAITC approved” books! Store purchases brought in more than $3,000, helping tip the scales to another record year!
GROWMARK shows support to IAITC through Pollinators Project
During Annual Meeting, GROWMARK and FS showed support for IAITC by highlighting a new collaboration, and unveiling a Pollinators poster that will be part of a new education series for IAITC. The development of a new Pollinators Ag Mag and companion classroom poster will highlight different types of pollinators including Monarch butterflies, bees, bats and birds. Materials and lessons also feature native Illinois plants that serve as pollinator hosts, and talk about what farmers do and what
students can do to help protect and encourage pollinator habitats, which in turn help the environment. This is an exciting new subject for IAITC and we’re pleased to have the backing of our friends at GROWMAK and FS!
