On June 9th, the IAA Foundation held its 20th annual Golf Outing for Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IAITC). Hosted in Pontiac, Illinois at the Wolf Creek Golf Club and Elks Country Club, this outing continues to be great fun, a great financial success and the largest of its kind to support agriculture! Because of our generous sponsors and event participants, the IAA Foundation raised a record breaking $52,000!
180 golfers took to the course for this scramble style tournament, after a rainy start to the day the sun came out to play, which put our golfers in a great mood. On course games and contest such as, the golf ball launcher sponsored by Service Master Restore, the chance to double your money, and a putting contest. After the day of golf, celebration continued with a steak dinner, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial®, a live auction full of great items and prizes!
Money raised from this year’s outing goes directly to support the 2016-2017 IAITC Program Budget. With a fully funded program year, $754,500 to be exact, the IAA Foundation can ensure that Ag Mags and other classroom resources are available at no charge, teachers can continue to apply for and receive book grants, garden grants, or other mini-grants, Summer Ag Institutes receive reimbursements for travel and supplies expenses, and most importantly, county Ag Literacy Coalitions will receive more than $600,000 in matching grants to keep local programs thriving.
Fun days on the golf course are great, but what’s even more impressive is the overall spirit of giving, and the importance placed on continuing to support Ag Literacy. Thank you to our sponsors whose generous donations allowed our event to be successful!
