IAA FOUNDATION
2008 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Dear Scholarship Applicant:
The objective of the IAA Foundation's 2008 scholarship program is to provide scholarships to college students who major in agriculture, agribusiness, or an ag-related course of study. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional scholastic ability, leadership, and/or financial need. Applicants may have been the recipient of a previous IAA Foundation
scholarship.

All applicants must meet these eligibility guidelines:
1. Must be a high school graduate or graduating in 2008.
2. Must be an Illinois Farm Bureau® member, spouse of member, or member's child.
3. Must be accepted for enrollment or be enrolled at an accredited college, university, or community college.
4. Must exhibit potential for successful completion of course of study.
5. Must be a resident of Illinois.
6. May not be a spouse, child, sibling, grandchild, son-in-law, or daughter-in law of an IAA Foundation Trustee or employee.

Applicants may apply for more than one, but can only receive one, of the following scholarships. In addition to the above guidelines, specific requirements for each scholarship are listed below:

IAA Foundation General Scholarship (Five $1,000 scholarships and one $1,100 scholarship to be awarded) Included in this category is one scholarship in the name of Fletcher A. Gourley and another in the name of Leonard Southwell. An additional $1,100 scholarship in the name of Robert F. Rouse will be given, bringing the total number of general scholarships to six. Major must be in agriculture, agribusiness, or an ag-related field. One of the General Scholarships may be given to a qualified student majoring in foreign agricultural trade, international food policy, or training for a career as an agricultural trade attaché at any university, college, or community college in or outside of Illinois.

Dorothy and Wilhemine Ratermann Scholarship (25 – $1,200 and 10 – $1,000 scholarships awarded)- Open to any major, recipients must be a son or daughter of an Illinois Farm Bureau member, and a resident of an Illinois county south of, and including, Calhoun, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Christian, Shelby, Cumberland, and Clark.

Robert F. Rouse Scholarship (Three $1,100 scholarships awarded) - Must be a resident of Lake County, Illinois. - Must be a U.S. citizen. - Must attend a post-secondary institution in the state of Illinois which may include an accredited junior college, community college, or trade school. - Major must be in agriculture or its related fields or in nursing.

William J. Kuhfuss Memorial Scholarship (One $1,200 scholarship awarded) - Must be a U.S. citizen. - Must attend a post-secondary institution in the state of Illinois which may include an accredited junior college, university, community college, or trade school. - Preference will be given to students from an agricultural background or working toward an occupation in or related to the field of agriculture.

Greg Carney Scholarship (One $1,500 or two $750 scholarships awarded) - Must attend University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and major in agriculture. - Must be actively involved in production agriculture in a family farm operation. - Must be a current or former 4-H member.

Dale E. Butz Scholarship (One $1,000 scholarship awarded) The recipient of this scholarship will be a post-secondary student with a background in production agriculture who is majoring in agriculture, agribusiness, or an agriculture related field. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic ability and financial need.

Heartland NAMA Steven A Hammerschmidt Memorial Scholarship (One $1,000 scholarship awarded) Must be a U.S. citizen. For junior or senior level college student majoring in agriculture or agribusiness at an Illinois college or university, who is interested in a career in agriculture marketing, sales, or communications. Applicants must also submit an essay of no more than 250 words on Why I Want a Career in Agriculture.

In addition to eligibility guidelines, the following will be considered in selecting recipients:
1. Scholarship
- Academic performance and honors
- Rank in class
- ACT score or SAT score
2. Demonstrated interest in agriculture and agribusiness (except Ratermann Scholarship)
3. Financial need
4. Evidence of self-help (How the student is contributing financially to his/her education)
5. Character and personality
- Maturity
- Industriousness and motivation
- Intellectual interest
- Moral character
- Demonstrated leadership

IMPORTANT
You are responsible for including the following items with your application. If one or more
documents are missing, your application may be disqualified. Transcripts and/or reference
letters may be mailed separately, if necessary. High school transcript is required for all
applicants, whether a high school senior or college student.

• Official high school transcript
• Official community college/college transcript
• Professional goals/Student statement (Section 5)
• Two reference letters (Section 6)
• Activities template – MUST USE
PLEASE NOTE: APPLICATIONS AND ACTIVITIES TEMPLATE MUST BE TYPED – NO
HANDWRITTEN APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

APPLICATIONS AND ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 1, 2008 to be considered.
